Inspired by Katherine Parr
“The Parr Clutch” is inspired by Katherine Parr—queen, writer, and quiet revolutionary.
Katherine Parr (1512–1548) was the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII—and the only one who outlived him. Often underestimated, she was far more than a survivor, and her legacy is not one of endurance alone.
An accomplished scholar and the first woman in England to publish under her own name, she was a reformer, a regent, and a unifier of the royal family. Living at the centre of a volatile court, she navigated power with clarity, composure, and quiet strength.
Katherine understood the weight of tradition and the danger of dissent—yet she remained her own person. She exemplified the motto Sapere Aude: dare to know. In a world that expected acquiescence, she chose to learn, to speak, and to lead.
Design Reflection
Adaptable in style, the Parr Clutch reflects the importance of versatility. The structured lines that criss-cross the front are a reminder not to be constrained or stifled by others’ expectations, but to think critically, choose deliberately and take pride in your independence of mind.
